The Sidewalk

The Sidewalk

2 mins

She walked furiously, her frustration was evident.

Cars and honking, nothing stopped her agitated walk, away from a man on the sidewalk.

All of a sudden, a vehicle slammed into her dainty body. Down she fell and the man fell on his knees.

Pedestrians rushed to her side and called for aid.

A flash of red-blue lights and a dull, aching throb clouded her mind

And she slipped into a deadly trance.

The man rushed to her, there was nothing he could do, he cried for her and for him .

They rushed her to the hospital for her condition was grave.

Straight to surgery she was taken to save a punctured organ.

Her breathing stopped. Her pulse dropped.

A few seconds was all that was left.

They were all ready to shock her back to life,

Once, twice, thrice, they tried but in vain.

The doctors grew despondent.

One stayed behind while the others left to carry the grave news to the man.

He fell to the knees as the doctors watched his forlorn figure with acute pain.

Back in the room, the doctor was ready to cut off all life support.

When suddenly her fingers twitched and she murmured an apology to the man on the sidewalk.

A spark, a sign of life, the doctor called for help and called for hope.

Days later, she thanked her lucky stars for she almost died when she owed him an apology.

I would know, for I was the one who walked away from the sidewalk.
