The Nightmare

The Nightmare

It was two days after you were born

I had held you very gently

And we had brought you home

My little baby with the curious eyes

During the day you would sleep

At night you would play

Long into the night

I would talk and you would listen

I remember dozing off

And then waking up suddenly

To see you were not breathing

My heart just stopped

I tried hard to wake you up

Next, we were in the hospital

There were lots of tubes around you

But you were still not breathing

I woke up again in a rush

And realized this was a dream

The worst dream of a mother

A nightmare to be remembered

But I looked in the cradle

And you had a small smile

On those tiny little lips

As you were having your own dream
