The Leafless Tree
The Leafless Tree
The tree was alone
In all its splendor
Somewhat weird
Somewhat strange
Yet it stood its ground
And stood well.
Not a leaf adorned it
It didn't seem to care.
Arms outstretched to heaven
As if calling out
To the angels above.
An occasional bird
Sitting and chirping on it
Failed to cover its nudity
Each time I saw it
It seemed as if
Its calling out to me.
What does it say?
Or does it say
Nothing at all?
Figment of my imagination I think
And laugh out loud.
Yet the picture it painted
Was awesome though,
All barren in soul and spirit
It stood its ground
And this amidst
Thick, lush, greenery all around.
It stood with
Profound grace and dignity
Saying as if
Move on, tire not
Have faith
Don't play the victim
'Cause you aren't dead yet.
