The Crown’s Aegis
The Crown’s Aegis
He was a prince
He was a pauper
He grew up into a young king
He turned out to be a brave warrior
They were true brothers-in-arm
He cut down anyone who tried to bring the king harm
One day, the enemy surprise attacked the fortress
The king had to strike them down remorseless
A weapon struck the king from behind
The attacker was someone who he thought he would never find
He was wounded by his foe
No instead,
He was backstabbed by his alter ego
The traitor left the king on the ground to die
Their strong bond then turned into a lie
For days, injured on the bed he lay
Thinking of the reasons his aegis went astray
His warrior was on the enemy's side
From the next fierce fight, the king couldn't hide
Will he emerge a valiant hero?
Or instead,
Will his scars hold him down to be a zero?
Did he have the flames of a phoenix?
Or instead,
Did he have a heart of a chicken?
Soon came the day of the bloodshed
And commenced the battle for the head's head
Many soldiers were injured, many were killed
With the blood on both sides, the battlefield was filled
The king encountered the other king
His former alter ego stood by him as his right-wing
Did
the warrior give a smile of lenity?
Or instead,
Did he give a grin of mockery?
Will the king forgive the backstabber?
Or instead,
Will, he cut him down with his dagger?
The soldiers of the king were lost
He was the only one standing accost
The other king was a strong foe
Even stronger with the warrior as his shadow
The king could foresee his defeat
But it was a battle with no retreat
He decided not to stop the incoming blow
And chose to let his blood flow
Just before the sword pierced the king's heart,
He was pushed away by his former counterpart
True loyalties of the warrior were then revealed,
As he challenged the other king on the battlefield
The warrior stroked the other king down,
Once again saving his former crown
The warrior could now barely stand
He was fatally wounded by the enemy's hand
The warrior concluded the two kingdoms strife,
It was a heavy victory that cost him his life.
The king ran and held the warrior with teary eyes,
He knew they had to deliver their final goodbyes
The bleeding warrior said
"Smile, O my naive brother
For I have fulfilled all that was due"
He shut his eyes further,
And once again he left the king in a state of blue.
