That World Of Hers

That World Of Hers

While the birds still chirped and the butterflies still danced...

The undercurrents, cold and ripping had already crept in...

Out of the bus and across the road, she pranced...

... but oblivious to the sights blurring

Holding a handful of buds, that only could be of the fragrant Cape Jasmine...

Passing by the park too often a riot of fun and cheer...

Out came discrete sounds of sirens and panic...

What happened to the usual din and laughter...

Never had the earth rumbled around her this quick...

A sudden sense of fear gripped her hard...

I need to go back home, to my parents, cried her heart...

Jittered she, scampered she, as fast as she could...

With each passing step, she was only getting closer to reality...

Oh no no..! Every rubble and every mound within the fence pierced her as a shard would...

Only the Fig tree in the front yard stood thick and in its entirety...

Solemn witness to the last goodbyes from Mira's world...

From everything to nothing...

Her world had overturned in a day...

No words of strength can be of any meaning...

Time heals, is all they say...

One, of course, needs to live yet another day...
