Swimming against the current

Have you ever gone against the grain?

Despite what others want from you,

Are your ideals viewed as inane?

Because of expectations, you're held to.

Or are you the sort to change their tide?

Because you felt entitled to,

Remember their future isn't for you to decide,

As that is something only they can do.

It's alright if you seek to advise,

On one point here or there,

But their ideals you shouldn't minimize,

Under the pretense that you care.

You would not like it in these shoes,

hearing perspectives you may not partake,

This is something you should not confuse,

with the thought that it is for their sake
