Pandemic 2020

Who could have thought that the world would be felled,

By a tiny virus that a superpower expelled;

Our neighbouring country did a  deed so foul,

That it had all of us on a vaccine prowl!

Novel coronavirus was the name chosen by the wise,

It was because it's shape was in a crown like guise;

Anything but a crown, it soon revealed its true colours,

It smuggled sneakily in and rapidly grew in numbers!

Was is lab grown or a bat originated?

To know the truth, everyone with bated breath awaited;

To this day, there are theories quite a few,

But the scientists of the world still don't have a goddamn clue!

Sanitizers, masks, and social distancing became the norm new,

A year limped by before any breakthrough;

Lockdown was a word unheard of by most till then,

Imposed it was on us by all countries again and again!

To sit at home it was deemed to be safe,

Though many strained at the leash and chafed;

But to venture outside was considered risky,

Coz on the streets death waited with a breath frisky!

A long-forgotten word was soon bandied about,

Pandemic it was, there was now no doubt;

Covid -19 , though did achieve the impossible,

Made humankind pause in mindless pursuits and become responsible!
