Poison

Poison

Her intoxicating nature consumed my mind,

All presence and consciousness I had left behind.

I wanted peace but her quite the other way around,

Was she the same girl years ago I had found?

Had legacy led to that change in her heart,

Was the splendor enough for our relation to part?

She said ‘ I’ll lay by you when you die’

But what hath caused that sudden change in thy?

It was on me to face her or hide,

Do I confront my perils or leave them aside?

My eyelids fluttered, I gasped for breath,

Every move or hers was like nearing death.

No matter how hard it hurt I truly care

For she lit my heart with her smile so fair.

They say true friends are never apart,

Maybe in distance but never in heart.

Before my end she crumpled lifelessly to the floor,

It was impossible that everything she'd ignore.

I saw her smile again, the last.

But it wasn’t like anything I had experienced in the past,

Her face smiled but her heart did not.

On myself this I had brought.

I gave her one last vacant stare,

As her poison consumed me layer by layer.
