PLEA TO DEATH

Go slow, will you?

I need time to grieve

I promise not to linger

And keep my eulogies brief

Like autumn leaves they fall

I need time to weep

To rummage through the memories

And select the ones to keep

These are my friends departing

Give me a while to bid goodbye

I had not prepared my heart for this

It was not their time to die

So will you rest your scythe

Pause for a day or two

Just let me gather my strength
