Mother India
Mother India
A goddess,
A queen she was
Held her head up,
To bring happiness and cause
The most feared one,
For those, who were vile
Always looked at her children,
With a motherly smile
Protected, cared, taught,
Nurtured them the best
For them, she fought,
Sheltered them, in her nest
She wore a crown,
Draped in tricolour
Held a book in one hand,
And sword in the other
The epitome of beauty,
With those valleys and hills
Enthroned as witty,
With her sharp quills
She was so different,
Yet so same
Held everyone within,
To her, whosoever came
Then there arose a nightmare,
Willing, her to defeat
She put a fight fair,
Without backing her feet
She fought and fought,
With her every cell
But, down she was brought,
And thrown in hell
They left her to die,
Doing all the sins
Still, she held her chin high,
As she was a queen
There she lay,
Crumbled and chained
Much to their dismay,
All efforts were in vain
All kinds of miseries,
Taking her to death
Surviving the immense torture,
She took her breath
Then came her children,
Did never let her die
Her ambitions for freedom,
Always held high
They protected their mother,
Hanging their heart
Fought like none other,
Threw viles into the dirt
They didn't care,
If they walked to death
Never let their mother be bare
In this devastating wreck
At last, she won,
But at a huge cost
Grieved over her loved ones,
And her children she lost
Today she stands,
Keeping her nation strong
Her feet fixed in sand,
Righting the wrongs
She tells a story,
Of her children, who found a way.
Who died in a glory,
To bring us here today.
73 years of freedom,
She's still standing upright
Mother India, tribute to you,
On this day bright...!
