Monsoon Verses
Monsoon Verses
Lovers pining, seeking warmth
And protection from thunderstorms
Red earth and pouring rain, kurinji flowers
Aphorisms; a romantic poet.
The downpour, a scorching yellow sari
Flattering her curves, a drenched hero
Lyrical banality of a song sequence
A Bollywood movie.
Called in sick to catch up with friends
Over a steaming pot of biryani
The IT guy’s day off.
Cozy sofa, warm sheets,
Latest movie on DVD, a half-read book
Crunchy pakoras, steaming cup of coffee
Her perfect lazy day.
Huge puddles, tiny paper boats
Teensy hungry stomachs with happy faces
Swish and splash on their way back, Home
Tarpaulin doors whoosh, tin roofs drum
As they gather around for warmth,
A construction worker’s family.
The curvy tear shaped drops linger, a brief moment
Squeal down leaves, window panes
Losing its shape to join its kin
Puddles, rivers and seas
Devastating floods
Overflowing gutters,
Losing its away
Along plastic-clogged paths.
Umbrellas, in different hues
A rainbow
Monsoon versions.
