Memories pleasant and unpleasant,

Both types exist to our very end.

Triggers exist that bring these to the forefront

Suddenly making our past feel like our present!

Pleasant Memories bring us joy,

Once again making our hearts swell with pride.

It motivates us to do even better

Making us feel this memory was worth a ride!

Unpleasant ones bring us tears,

Once again making us wonder what went wrong.

It demotivates us by surfacing the fear

Making us hope this memory won't last long!

At the end what our mind does not realize;

Is that it's a memory from the past,

Neither the happiness nor the sadness it invokes,

Is not here to last!
