Koi No Yokan
Koi No Yokan
Last night I had a dream about you,
As if travelling in a time capsule,
To my right played my childhood,
And to my left floated images of you.
The first time when I saw you,
It wasn’t love I knew,
It felt like a premonition of love,
A luminous prelude to an infinite story.
Here as I travelled through time and memories,
Through the tiny lanes and sunlit trees,
Here where space and time collapsed,
You came back to me from absolute nullity.
You seemed to have always known the ways around my heart,
Yet look How easily we grew apart,
When we’d thought we’d grow into each other?
When I thought I had walked into forever!
As we passed the myriad of familiar houses with moonlit stairs,
I could already see you evanescing into the thin air.
I watched you being carried away into the tender sea,
As I stood staring at that blurred view on that forgotten shore.
There was a sense of permanence about us,
Like the fairies had sprinkled on us some of their stardust,
Yet here as I sat under the cool shade,
You gradually Drifted away like a summer’s song.
I would like to remember you as this dream,
A bitter sweet lullaby to put me into sleep.
Perhaps I’ll love again,
But never quite in the same way.
