I Ran
I Ran
Don’t ask me for no reasons
Coz you won’t understand
Coz you ain’t been where I’ve been
So you don’t know what forced my hand
Ran away from what
And ran away to where
That’s not important
I’m just havin fun
With nobody to care
I ran and ran
On the dark dark street
Shadows below the pool of light
I sat there and lit up
All smoke and sweet
And some dude came by
Whistling the grand old tune
I gave him a fiver
And he took a small puff
And rode on the sand dune
And my friends came over
Some smoked and drank
All of us as equals
With no file or rank
And we went to the terrace
Don’t know who’s house
Inside they all were sleeping
And we didn’t want to arouse
And the night went by
It was all right and wild
At some point I passed out
Guess the dosage wasn’t mild
And I remember nothing at all
Except some laughin and cryin
The fog and the mist
So intense
I don’t remember though I’m tryin
Well they found us in the mornin
And two of us were dead
They took us to the police
The jail has a nasty bed
Thirteen years, then out of jail
And then I ran and ran
Been runnin ever since
To live the life I can
Haven’t found what I came for
And don’t think I’ll ever find
But I’m free
And I’m me
Although I’m losin my mind
Now I’m all thin and reedy
And my liver’s most given out
And my stomach all bloated
Like a rude flea ridden lout
But I’m blamin no one
It was my damn ol choice
I can give many reasons
With my raspy ol voice
No ones gonna give a fig
For one more lonely drifter
They’ll just grin
as they see me sing
And take my flask out for a snifter
Six months says the doc
Lucky to live even that long
But I ran Coz that was my choice
Wanna end on my self made song
I’m not made for a dreary old place
The IV drip and the needle
I’m more at home
on the poor old street
The doc - he continues to wheedle
And the stretchers all laid out
The hospitals got a nice fan
But there I go
Out of the window
Only one footnote - I ran
