Hirakani Buruj
Hirakani Buruj
Soon after the sunset, abide by the order,
The main gate of the fort Raigad
Was closed forbidding late coming Hira
The milkmaid, begging for her child
In the cradle at the foot of the fort
Finding the guards unmoved by a mother’s
Agony, with hard efforts, in the darks
Hira slipped, descended the steepest cliff
To the guards’ greatest surprise the next day,
Hira appeared at the opened gate,
With the milk pot on the head,
A tender child tied on her back,
Was arrested for escaping charges,
Presented before the tolerant king
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
Highly impressed by trembling Hira’s
Heroics, the adventures, instead of punishing
Offered clothes, and ornaments, set her free,
She bowed down thrice, praying
The almighty to let the king live long
Hiroji Indoolkar, the chief architect
And the civil engineer, on the King’s
Advice built the strong watch tower
On the aforesaid cliff naming
‘Hirakani Buruj’ which stands
Still one of the attractions of the visitors
