Tragedy

Girl in the Red Coat

Girl in the Red Coat

The little girl in the red coat,

Already found out the world was cutthroat.

Saw the bad men taking away her family,

Told by her father to run away from this calamity.

Running and running with tears in her eyes,

How long will she have to wait for the allies?

Trying hard to rip away this golden star,

Heard the Volkswagen approach, the deathly car.

Screaming and shouting, they took her away,

Singing in Hebrew, to Moses, did she pray.

But alas! No prayer could do her good,

They took away all of her neighbourhood.

Arriving in Auschwitz, confused and scared,

Knowing she would not be spared.

Looking at all the other Jews there;

She thought to herself, how is this fair?

Starved and thirsty, she could barely think,

It had been ages since she could sleep a wink.

Always petrified of the men in uniform,

Nothing could be worse, not even a storm.

One day, she was told she would be given a shower;

Feeling weak, having no choice and no power,

She went inside with the other Jews,

And saw the bruises of their abuse.

The shower started running but there was no water,

They were all just as lambs to the slaughter.

The poison filled the chamber and she couldn’t breathe,

Now on her coffin, is a wreath.
