Firefly
Firefly
Into the flames of a foretold destiny, I dance
Flickering around me, the start of a doomed romance
Peals of heat lick my body
Pearls of pain penetrate my skin
What am I to you but just another firefly?
Just to be consumed and sinned
But for me, you are more than just a flame
I am committed
To my unchangeable destiny
I am bound
To my inexplicable irony
For what am I to do but embrace you in my dance of death?
Turn to ashes, no ceremony, no wreath,
fulfill my life by making a choice to die
Just so that
I can pass through your rings of fire and feel a moment
Of unexplained joy
What am I, but a simple firefly
Doomed since the beginning of time
Directionless through life, purposeful in death
Why did He create me such?
Must be a reason, I know not of
Must be treason, or an eternal sin
Or an unpardonable act, unknown to me
But many lives must have come and gone
Haven't I repaid enough?
Hasn't my debt come to a nil?
Isn't there a better destiny for me to fulfill?
The world sees me
As I glow in the dark, but there's a void inside
What am I but a simple firefly?
