Enthralling Sight

Enthralling Sight

Night sighed as the leaves rustled in the breeze,

The moon peek-a booed through the drifting clouds;

He watched her forehead fold into a crease,

Saw the question in her eyes, always silent never aloud!

They had met away from the prying eyes,

On the moor, at the end of the village green;

Witnessed only by the above milky grey-white skies;

To see her after so long, felt almost like a dream!

They had been childhood sweethearts long separated,

Pining for years had today made them sneak;

Tenderly he held her face in his hands, love had never abated,

He feasted on her luminescence, lost in her mystique!

Her citrusy fragrance lingered in the air around him,

He still heard her tinkling laugh over the cacophony of voices, in a crowd;

Destiny had torn them apart, it was their moment either to sink or swim,

Their responsibilities over, they had done their families proud!

They were meant for each other and this was their chance!

The road was strewn with unfulfilled desires and a whiff of promise;

Time and serendipity had played a hand in their romance,

Together in life and after, no one could now them dismiss!
