Egret
A snowy egret gazed upon the waves each dawn,
Wondering how far they'd traveled, and what tales they'd born.
He yearned to touch the shore, but it fled from his sight,
A fleeting dream, lost in the light.
He longed to behold the tiny creatures of the land,
But they scurried away, fearful of his gentle hand.
He wished to touch the sunflowers, to feel their soft delight,
But they wilted at his presence, their beauty lost in flight.
The egret sat upon the waters, measuring the sea's vast expanse,
A gray blanket stretching far and wide, without a chance.
A stormy day arrived, and the egret spread his wings to ride,
The turbulent waves beneath him, a world where he could reside.
Today, the egret touched the shore, a first and wondrous feat,
Today, he found solace within, a sense of peace to greet.
He discovered life's essence, a truth he'd never known,
A sense of belonging to the world, a feeling all his own.
The egret's heart, once filled with longing, now swelled with delight,
For he had found his place in the world, a sense of peace to hold tight.
And as he stood upon the shore, he knew he'd never roam,
For he had found his home, his heart, his soul, his sweet abode.
