EBB AND FLOW

EBB AND FLOW

At the cusp of our sixties,

It is all about morning walks and evening whiskies;

No longer a participant in the rat race,

Isn’t it all about leisurely days and finding our own space?

Looking back at a life well spent,

With many joyful moments and some few dents;

Climbing the corporate ladder, it was but inevitable,

That sometimes I missed occasions memorable!

Making money and family comfortable was always then a priority,

Also deep inside somewhere was an urge to be remembered in posterity;

With that end in mind, middle age meant lot of hard work and sacrifices,

And drowning out family’s sometimes aggrieved voices!

Doing justice to aged parents was forever a concern,

Along with that, for family’s future, I had to slog and earn;

Though my better half did a helping hand lend,

But she also had myriad household duties to attend.

‘Keep it simple’ guided me all my life,

With wants few and demands none, there was hardly any strife!

Wife and children too cooperated and did their bit,

With us on the same page it was an easy ride, I readily admit!

Steps then taken have now yielded fruit,

Though living for today, but also for a better tomorrow was always at its root;

With all responsibilities over and having done the family proud,

A wee bit of nostalgia and a sigh of happiness, surely is allowed?
