Delusion (Prose Poetry)

There were nights when he rocked you to sleep, put ice packs on your forehead to bring down your fever raging. Rushed you to the Paediatrician's clinic with panic, because he was unsure how to treat the disease.

There were days when he bunked office to attend the parent-teacher meetings, take you to the movies, accompany you for soccer training. Every birthday threw a party to celebrate your arrival into his ironical life. Lost and gained one in a single moment.

No, he never married again. Couldn't trust your welfare to another woman. Father and mother roles he played right till the very end. And now

when he needs your attention, you have left him in an old age home to be taken care of by attendants. You justify your action deluding yourself, it's good for him to stay in such surroundings with people belonging to the same generation. He no more fits into your young family of wife and two children.
