Best Friend

Once my mom locked me up inside my room...

The lights turned off, darkness and gloom..

I cried and screamed, bellowed and pleaded...

Cries on deaf ears, no one heeded...

Then...

 The sound of my father and mother playing with their biological daughter...

The adopted child, left in darkness...

A lamb for the slaughter...

My screaming arrested, and thoughts reflected...

The darkness will no end...

I've found my own playmate, the darkness is my best friend...

For years I played with it. I woke with it,

I slept with it! I laughed and I wept with it!

That was until I saw you,...

Your acceptance for a being of darkness...

Your love for a psychopath...

Your compassion to bring back the light...

Your love to bring a brilliant day upon a morbid night...

And Yet, you left as soon as you came...

Taken away by death, my life will never be the same...

I never got a chance to say thank you...

or an opportunity to make amends...

The Sun must set, the night must descend...

I was being of the dark, to begin with..

And with darkness, I shall end...
