AN ALLROUNDER : THE DOCTOR

Oh, how hard is it to live the life of a doctor,

gruelling studies and a hectic internship,

to earn the tag of a MBBS doctor,

having to study voluminous books,

being shunned by many and self doubt arises, 

yet the thought of wearing a littmann,

posing a pleasant smile on the face, 

being ready to serve humanity,

not being drawn towards money, 

being treated as someone next to God, 

the self satisfaction that a doctor has 

is close to none as a doctor flies high and high .

Going to the doctor in a physically ill state,

the doctor asking the patient for the signs,

finding out the symptoms, examining the patient,

injecting the patient, prescribing medicines,

the comforting advice and words of the doctor, 

the epitome of humility, patience, kindness,

dedication, hardwork, passion and knowledge,

the doctor fits the bill for all these traits .

A noble profession as it is rightly termed,

being a doctor demands a myriad of sacrifices,

sacrificing one's youth and early adulthood,

not eating at regular intervals of time, 

compromised schedule of sleep, 

standing for long hours during operations,

constrained time being spent with dear ones,

high pressure and responsibility being imposed, 

working relentlessly towards others' welfare,

bearing the criticism of being money minded 

though they are service oriented, 

a doctor has faced it all .

Epidemics and pandemics may come and go,

work may cease to exist for other professionals,

yet the doctor is always in demand,

fearless about contracting the patients' diseases,

serving as frontline workers during emergencies,

not bothering about the paycheck,

the power and pride of being able to

revive a patient from the wings of death, 

the goosebumps that a doctor gets 

when a patient thanks the doctor is unmatched.
