ALONE
ALONE
She walked alone, the long, long path
Frail and aged, never looked for support
A young boy smiling broadly joined her
Held her hand in a tight grip with warmth
I will walk with you, would love to, said he
Together they laughed and talked all along
Piled scattered shells, on their way, he kicked
She pointed to a few shells, asking him to pick
Keep them safe, they, real diamonds, said she
Soon the boy’s hand filled, and he stopped
Laughing, he said, now I won’t walk, and away he ran
The lady stood smiling watching him run, said
Did you think, I needed your support, my baby?
I made you identify, the diamonds you kicked
My job is over, and I will walk alone again until
I meet some other one like you in need of help.
