All That You Did For Us........

You were there for us all the time,

During our childhood, school and college days,

For anything and everything we used to run to you,

You solved the matter just like magic for us!

You were so encouraging in all we do,

To write, to draw, to paint, to drive, to play, to study,

To cook, to help, to speak the truth, to exercise,

In so many other things too, you always helped us through!

You brought us up with such clear values,

We recognise the right from the wrong, all because of you,

Truth, you stand by, your conscience clear,

You worked so hard in life; a self-made man you were!

You, a Freedom Fighter, an Author, a Government Officer,

A hockey player, tennis player, a voracious reader,

I have seen you at the table reading or writing always,

Even in your last few days, I saw you reading at 3 am!

I can imagine your life, such a well-lived life,

When mom was asked on her Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary,

What she likes about you, she said, she loved your truthful ways,

She laughed and said you told her everything even the mistakes you made!

I admire you and love you loads, Daddy,

I remember your ways and love the memories you have left,

But, I feel so bad for that one last week in the hospital all by yourself,

Covid played the spoil-sport and you had to face death on your own!

Other than that, there are simply no regrets,

A life so well lived, needs to be celebrated,

For all others to follow in your footsteps,

To read, write, think big and work for the underprivileged too!
