A Cryptic Tune?
A Cryptic Tune?
I wish I was more cryptic with the words that I use
It's like being in a jazz band playing rock and roll tunes
The words have a purpose and the melody is clear
But what I'm really saying is taken far from here
I have an ear for music and I sing songs in the shower
But I am never washed fully clean you'll always find a trace
Of the filth that is on my mind, it's dirty and without peace
I used to be a showman playing for the madding crowd
To mellow out their feelings I always spoke my mind
With caution on the saxophone swooning a lullaby
With rhythm and with the soul when I play the blues they sigh
So the listeners can console and take of what they will
Don't take these words for granted there are lines in-between
I dare you if you will find the meaning behind these words
I am rock and rolling still but the jazz man holds the key
Every other blue tone writer will never be like me
Who wants to sing a happy song where everything is bliss
No one that I've met so far can sing a song like this
They hop and hip and pop and step on everyone's toes
But to be cryptic in your writing lets the reader know
There is more to what you are saying and still more to come
So be poised with readiness for the ultimate surprise
I once played piano in a band of fools who believed in God
But most of them are either doing time or living with their lord
Me I'm going steady but not in the right direction as far as I can say
I need to go back to the beginning to who I used to be
Then block out every note and try to change the key
Then this cryptic tune of mine will be an undefined melody.
