A Broken Future
A Broken Future
Endless days of grind,
With emptiness inside me,
Asking about my self-worth
And the price of my life.
Day and night
I’m still in one piece.
Something was wrong.
A hollow feeling grew
Until I saw a flicker,
A light far away.
I called it salvation,
Looked to it as my future,
Poured my hopes into it.
It was far,
But I endured.
I bore the hardship.
I fought through self-doubt.
It was never easy,
But I believed I could reach it.
Then came the moment,
My hope shattered.
The light was never mine.
It wasn’t my dream,
Only a firefly.
The closer I drew,
The farther it fled.
I stopped moving.
Stopped dreaming of it.
I let it fade,
Even as it broke my hopes.
She was never mine
And never will be.
Her uncertainty pulled her away.
My plans,
Tossed in
to the bin,
No longer needed.
I move on.
