Dear Satpal

Satpal was a security Guard at Army School, in a small town of Himachal Pradesh in Sirmour District. I was one of the students of that school in 5th standard. After the school hours, instead of going back to home, me, with my other friends, used to go to our another close friend, Sanjay Sharma and play at his home, as he was having large number of toys at his home along with a playground nearby. We used to enjoy a lot. But our parents knew about this & they never stopped us from playing. Sanjay's house was just 8 KM away from our school but it was a very lonely place, with only Sanjay's house and nobody else in the vicinity.

One day as we were going to our friend's house, some unknown people, wearing mask on their faces, stopped us. They looked very dangerous. They started asking us about where we are from & what are we doing over there. Initially we thought they were asking casually, but gradually we realised that they were highly arrogant. Soon they came near us. They grabbed us & started tying us with rope. We were shocked & started crying, thinking that now we will never be able to see our parents. God knows what those evil people were about to do with us.

They tied us tight & started moving ahead. We were helpless. Tears were coming from our eyes as we remembered the advise of our parents, never to go anywhere without informing anyone or without any senior person. We were ashamed of ourselves but could not do anything.

As they moved few steps ahead, somebody suddenly came in front of them & stopped them forcefully. My God, it was Satpal. We were so happy to see him as if we have found some treasure.

Satpal understood what was going on. That day we came to know something very new about Satpal, he was Black Belt in Karate. With in no time he broke the bones of all those goons & left them lying on the ground crying out of pain. Then he immediately called the police & the police officials immediately attested them.

Me & my friends just hugged Satpal tightly & started crying bitterly. Very softly Satpal said, "Don't cry boys. Everything is fine. I am here for you. But please don't repeat same mistake in future. If I stop you from roaming here & there, it is for your benefit." Smile came on our faces & me started moving along with Satpal towards our homes. On the way I asked him, "Satpal, you never told us that you are a Martial Arts expert".

He smiled & said, "Dear boys, your security is my responsibility. If I don't keep myself fit, how will I ensure your well being." What an amazing answer? We felt huge respect for him seeing his dedication & commitment towards his duty. That day we learnt one more lesson from him; an individual should be fully committed towards his duties & responsibilities. 

Hat's off to such Honourable Security Guards, who are real symbol of selfless service & workplace ethical values.
