What Our Troubles Teach

No one in the world,

Would have ever thought

That we would be caged like zoo animals,

But without being caught.

 

Due to this pandemic,

We are forced to stay at home.

And in the beautiful world outside,

We are not allowed to roam.

 

We can’t go to school and office,

Or even to the terrace to enjoy the rain,

We can’t travel outstation,

By the car, plane or train.

 

To buy groceries from the shop,

We can’t walk down the street.

And the ones whom we miss,

Our dear relatives, we can’t meet. 

 

But if I look at all this,

The other way round

We are learning so many new things,

Is what I found.

 

We are learning about new apps,

In our effort to stay in touch with each other.

We are learning the household work,

And are able to help and spend time with our mother.

 

We are able to realize,

How the caged animals feel.

Fewer cars… less pollution,

So nature is able to heal.

 

We are trying to make the best use,

Of the resources that are available.

And getting healthier as we only eat

Home-cooked food served at the table.

 

We are engaging in new activities,

So that we utilize our time well.

And are grateful to God for keeping us safe,

In our sweet home where we dwell.

 

So one thing is completely true,

That to a new level of our abilities we reach.

When we are ready to accept,

What our troubles teach.
