The Lift
The Lift
She got out of the car and adjusted her dress. She went inside the hotel and pressed the lift button. “Are you coming?” she asked him. “No, I need to make a call, you go,” he said and went outside. “Wait….tell me the floor number” she followed him. “Banquet hall is on the 3rd floor and room is on the 4th floor” “ok come fast,” she said and went back to the lift. She entered the lift and pressed the button. She was alone so she started checking herself in the mirror. The lift stopped on the 1st floor and a guy entered. She stopped all the work and she stood straight. All of a sudden lights went off and lift stopped. She was scared and didn’t know what to do.
“Hello….hello anybody there” she was shouting and banging the lift door. Then she saw a ray of light coming from the backside. “Hey calm down,” he said by holding the mobile in his hand. She turned and looked at him. The light was from a mobile torch. She couldn’t see his face as it was all dark. “There is a bell here so don’t worry,” he said while pressing the button. By looking at the mobile in his hand she remembered about her cell. She tried to call her cousin but there was no signal. After 5 minutes the light was on but the lift was not moving. She felt happy about the light. He was moving in different directions and trying for the mobile signal.
“Do you have a signal on your mobile?” he asked her. “No” she checked her mobile again. “So……did you come for sangeeth,” he asked her by looking at her tensed face. She didn’t answer him. “Hey don’t worry, see I am scared, you are scared we can do nothing now, we have to just wait. I have already pressed the bell ok” she felt a little bit relief after listening to him. “Yeah,” she said suddenly. “What?” he didn’t understand. “sangeeth” “oh…you are too early” “am I?” she questioned him. “Yeah party starts at 7 and it's 5:30 now,” he said looking at his watch.
“Even you are early,” she asked him. “I know I am early, the groom is my friend so I had to come and I have a dance practice and technically am late”
“So you are dancing with the groom,” she asked with a confused face. “Why? What’s wrong?” he asked by looking at her face. “No, I mean….. I heard that the groom can’t dance and no one is dancing from their side”
“That’s why I am here, am supporting him, all the people on the bride’s side are very good dancers so…..” “How do you know?” she interrupted him.
“I heard and I also heard that the bride is a good dancer so we planned a great number to win against them,” he said with a proud smile. “Ohhh….ok” she said and checked the time. “Oh my god I am late, we are stuck here from twenty minutes” her face was sad.
“You are beautiful” he said looking at her. “Huh…..what?” “You look beautiful” “I need to get out” she changed the topic. “Relax we will be out soon” he paused for few seconds and continued “by the way whose side are you?”
“Bride's,” she said with a smile. “Oh shit I…. I didn’t mean to……my friend will kill me”; “now you don’t worry your plan is safe with me” she said by looking at his worried face.
“All our plans are wasted, your looks are enough to defeat us” he said with a smooth voice. “Really” she raised her eyebrow. “My friend said that the bride is very beautiful but I think he didn’t see you” he started flirting with her.
“Oh come on I already said you that your secret is safe with me so stop flirting”
"Really I even said to you before that you are beautiful. My friend is an idiot.” “Yes he is” she laughed.
Both were jerked by the sudden moment of the lift. The lift doors opened and people stood there with the tensed faces. When she stepped out every one surrounded her. He was confused to see his friend near her. He thought that his friend came for him but he went to her. After a few minutes when everyone got settled he went to her. “You are…..” “Am the bride” she said with a cunning smile.
