Lighting crashed, rain pattered, it was a gloomy night…Fearful it seemed.

The Wardens were driving through the unforgiving weather, trying to reach their hotel resort- Crystal Lake - in Burnsall, Yorkshire. Sam Roberts, the resort's manager, was supposed to be waiting for them. They had left after a big supper at a diner by the road. Amanda, the 10 year old daughter of Cassie and Bruce Warden, suddenly heard a sharp intake of breath. It had come from her mother. She looked up from the book she was reading, and saw a woman and a boy standing right in the middle of the road. It happened so quickly, Mr. Warden stopped the car and it screeched.

The woman was a bony figure draped in a white attire, and the boy with a torn teddy bear in one hand. He was wearing a dusty jacket. Both were drenched entirely, dripping, with their hair plastered to their heads. No shadows from the car headlights were forming behind them. No car was to be seen either. The Wardens were not feeling good about giving a lift to these weird people, especially with Amanda in the car. Thereupon, they drove past until the woman and the child fully disappeared. Amanda started reading again. A moment later, she heard a whimper and a soft shush. Like a mother consoling an upset child. She ignored these sounds as she thought she must be imagining things.

Later that night, they finally reached the resort and met Sam, who was eagerly waiting to greet them. Bruce asked Sam to get them #Cabin 1, as it seemed secluded and private. Sam informed them that the cabin had been locked years ago so that no one goes in. Saying this, he checked them in to #Cabin 3.

Next morning, Amanda looked out her window. The cabin was overlooking slopes of green and the clear lake with birds chirping merrily. She had breakfast in bed while enjoying the calming view. Everything was normal. But alas, we spoke too soon. Out of the blue, Amanda caught a glimpse of two residents of #Cabin 1. She wondered who was living in the abandoned place.

The fork that she was holding clattered on to the floor. A woman in white stood by the door. A boy wearing an old jacket, was going out to play. No car was visible. The woman, she was thin, thinner than ever, and stiff as if she had withered.

It was them.
