The booming shouts of the alarm shattered her heart into a disarray of pieces. She tried bargaining few seconds of time but the yelling clock turned a deaf ear to her. With a heavy heart, she had to break up with the bed. She silenced the wicked clock with one shot and a few curses and started walking lifelessly, dragging her feet.

While her eyelids were in no mood to drift apart, her brain signaled her fingers to wake her up with a fresh breeze of air. Her fingers set out on the mission as soon as they received the orders. No sooner did they slide open the windows, the playful breeze got a chance to flirt with her hair. Maya was still in last night’s love-hangover. The slide show of the whole night was stuck on repeat mode ever since he left. Her usual brown cheeks had a rosy hue today.

It was when a coy smile was preparing to take a big stretch, suddenly, her romance with his thoughts and her cozy moment with the wind, both, were interrupted by a loud thud on her door. Maya stayed rooted to the spot while her mind played detective, guessing, who possibly can be at the door at this wee hour? Within the fractions of seconds and few steps from answering the door, she survived the whirlwind of thoughts.

Maya began to unlock the series of bolts like she was solving the puzzle behind some mystery doors shown in the movies. The creaking sound of her door added more to the outbreak of horrifying expression on her face. The color drained from her rosy cheeks and she turned as white as snow, her stomach lurched, eyes popped, jaws dropped, joints trembled, heart ached and the adrenaline coursing through her body was shutting down her ability to think logically because… she saw herself.

“Hi Maya, Good Morning,” said the other Maya.

She couldn’t breathe, it felt as if someone was choking her. A cry for help forced itself up her throat, but it failed to come out. Maya slammed the door and rushed to her room but, stumbled upon something and landed on the floor. She was paralyzed with fear and couldn’t move a muscle to turn back and check what it was. Maya was already smelling death in the air and so decided to face it anyway. The turn cost her a second fatal blow. Her heart sank and she could no more feel anything. Her eyes flooded with water and her mind was shutting down. All of a sudden she started laughing thinking that is was some kind of a joke or her mind was playing some trick. She howled with the throbbing pain and collapsed on her own body lying on the floor.

Maya tried waking her pale and stone cold body, screamed, shook, but nothing worked. She was slowly slipping into the darkness. She smirked realizing that the last night was indeed unforgettable. His words when he offered her the glass, “Common baby, just one drink for me, pleaseeeee” and the goodbye kiss, all made sense now.

Maya again heard the loud thud on her door. She walked just like before, dragging her feet, lifeless. When she opened the door, her other-self smiled and said, “Come, Maya, let’s go.

As they walked, they merged into one and Maya turned back, her eyes sparkled with the hunger for revenge. The coy smile bloomed on her face again.
