Stand By Me Part 31

Just as I was wondering what to do, the door opened with a creak. My heart started racing. I stood up, not knowing whether it was Rithvik or someone else.

"No need to panic, it's me", Rithvik said.

I heaved a sigh of relief.

"Sorry for the trouble, it was a distant relative who dropped by unannounced, he is gone now, all is well", he said.

I told him that I needed to leave as it was already past 2 pm and mother would be waiting. She had already called up Alka to check.

Rithvik understood and asked to me leave from the backyard door, just in case someone else would bump into me if I leave from the front door.

"Don't worry, the watchman who guards the backyard is not in today", he said.

I sneaked out from the backyard door and quickly got into an auto. By the time I reached home, it was almost 3 pm. I was sure I would be bombarded with questions.

Mother opened the door, she seemed relaxed.

"You should have told me", she said.

Oh, no…

What is it that I should have told her? Did anyone see me while getting in or getting out of Rithvik's house?
