She woke up in a white lifeless room trying to remember what had happened yesterday? She heard someone say- he is no more. A vivid memory comes back.. She didn't know what to do now. All her life, she had been in his shadows. She had known him since they were 8 after all. Always side by side, always hand-in-hand, always together. She was his best friend and for her? Well, he was her every bit of the universe.

She lived in a small town where nothing changed, the grasses were green, the mountains so high where birds chirped, and squirrels ran for the nuts. The people knew each other and neighbors called one another for dinner. Nothing ever changed. Everybody and everything belonged to everyone. Where she lived was beautiful on its own. Then one sunny day, his family decided to move in to the town and her world suddenly became more beautiful. She finally found someone whom she wanted to be hers and hers only.

Maybe it was his eyes, maybe it was the way he asked her with that smile if he could sit beside her in the school bus, maybe it was because her mother invited his family to dinner and Mrs. Scott was just the nicest and the prettiest lady she had ever seen, maybe it was just because she needed someone who was just hers. Soon they became the best of friends. Doing every mischief together, being forgiven together, laughing, and running, fighting and forgiving. They were just inseparable. She remembers the day when he asked her for Junior prom to be his date as clear as if it was yesterday. She smiles softly as the tear rolls down her left eye. But she has no memory of yesterday. She can’t seem to remember what had happened. She cries at her helplessness; a lot.

They danced the night away, tomorrow would be their first day as seniors. They were so happy together. She thought he was in love with her too. She doesn’t remember that day when he said he didn’t feel the same. All she remembers is she had spent the whole week home where her routine included crying and throwing things around. She was a mess. She even killed her cat,her Muse whom she loved so much just because it was him who gifted her the cat four years ago. It was a grey colorless day when she had funeral on her backyard for her Muse.

How could someone not love her back? She was a masterpiece. She was like a warm bright sun on cold dark winter days. She was spring full of joy in the world of falls. She was a delight to be with. There was no way anyone could not love her. And he had seen every part of her. He knew her like day knew light. How could he not love her back? How could he do that to her? Maybe it was just a prank. Maybe he had kept some stupid bet with them boys. Maybe he was just playing with her. What was it? And during this time, he did not come back. He did not come that day when her Muse died. After the confession, he never came back to her. She wanted to go to him and tell him what he meant to her. How she was so mad at him for playing that prank, but she didn’t go and he never came.

She found out he had left the town. Without informing her! Without telling her that he was sorry! She thought she lost everything that day. After the death of Muse, everyone felt she had become lifeless but when he left, she thought that her life was useless. “Useless things shouldn’t exist in this beautiful town”, she thought. She went to the supermarket, bought a rope, two bottles of sleeping tablets and while she was returning home, she saw a beautiful yellow summer dress, she felt it was made for her. She bought it as well. “He would love it”, she thought.

She came back home left the things there and went straight to her neighbor’s house. Mrs. Scott was as pretty was ever. Mrs. Scott was so happy to see her finally well and cheerful as she used to be. She smiled and kindly denied the tea and lemon meringue pie Mrs. Scott had offered to her and asked for his address. She came straight back home and started packing her bags. When she was finally done, she took out her life’s saving and booked a flight to him. Her parents were obviously surprised at the idea but decided to let her choose what she wanted.

The next morning, when her flight landed to where he was. She went to a local telephone booth, called him, asked him to pick her up. She was so happy to see him in that sleek back James Dean look. She hopped in the car, he drove her to his apartment. They didn’t exchange any words during the entire journey. She told him she still loved him. He answered her that the few days he had been there, he missed her like crazy but he could never love her. She said it was okay and she just wanted him to know.

Soon it was night, they had planned for dinner. She wore that yellow summer dress. He thought she looked beautiful. It was a nice dinner. They returned and were dancing… She went to the kitchen, brought a knife, went straight towards him, smiled and slit through his throat so fast that he might not have felt a thing. She killed him! There was blood all over. Her dress was ruined. Everything, her whole life, was ruined. With him, everything ended. He was dead! She went straight to the police station, surrendered herself and passed out.
