Role Of Media To Create Vigilance
Role Of Media To Create Vigilance
Media are the various sources that provide information to masses. Newspapers, magazines, TV, films are known channels of media. Internet, cell phones, etc are some of the media channels that are growing in popularity.
Media has the potential to spread any information to the people in no time. This is the reason why if the media reporters act with responsibility, they can expose many corruption rackets.
We all are aware of some sting operation rackets. These methods of sting operation have put a threat in the minds of officials and they do not start exposing their corrupt practices to strangers. But still, many of these officials also keep postponing doing the work of the strangers as they cannot demand bribe from them. In fact, the media needs to do some more sting operation in this area of delay.
Yet, we find that most of the media outlets are owned by persons who receive patronage from some corrupt officials or individuals. Then the media does not permit exposing those persons in their channel or newspaper etc.
In law enforcement, a sting operation is an operation designed to catch a person committing a crime by means of deception. A typical sting will have a law enforce
ment officer or cooperative member of the public play a role as a criminal partner or potential victim and go with suspects' actions to gather evidence of the suspect’s wrongdoing.
Sting operations are fraught with ethical concerns over whether they constitute entrapment. Law-enforcement may have to be careful not to provoke the commission of a crime by someone who would not normally be inclined to do. Additionally, in the process of such operations, the police often engage in the same so-called crimes, often victimless, such as buying or selling contraband, soliciting prostitutes, etc. In common law jurisdictions, the defendant may invoke the defense of entrapment.
Occasionally, a sting operation is kept secret from other associates. Additionally, sting operations may be a component of a conspiracy.
These operations and investigating techniques of media actually give strength to a common man to find out the details whenever he finds any corrupt practices. If media keeps up its pace to sting operations, it can boost the morale of the citizen and even a common man will work to expose the corruption, leaving hardly any space for corrupt officials to keep following corrupt practices.
