My Only Love

He opened his eyes, it was still dark, he turned aside and took the mobile from the table beside the bed. It showed 3 am. He kept his mobile aside and went back to sleep. Again he checked the time its 3:45 am, he was trying hard to sleep but he couldn’t. There was only one thing going on in his mind. He was checking phone for every 20 mins. He couldn’t lie anymore on bed. He got up from the bed at 5:10 am and went straight in to the kitchen. He took milk from the refrigerator and made tea.

“Move I will do it” his mother said from behind. “It’s already done maa” he showed the tea cup. “Do you want to think once again like……” his mother followed him to hall. “No maa” he didn’t let her to complete the sentence. “So you decided” “yeah” she sat beside him on the sofa. “What will you say to our relatives, neighbours?” “maa I don’t care about them I only care about you” “do you beta?” she looked at him. “maa come on don’t do this now, we discussed many times and we even discussed about this last night” “yeah we discussed and I agreed but I don’t know what to answer to your aunty” “leave everything maa I will handle them ok” she sat silently. “maa….” He called again. “maa why don’t you say ok” his younger sister interrupted and both looked at her. “Maa is scared only because of relatives but not about your decision bhai” when his sister said he got up from the couch and went in to his room to get ready. After half hour “I am going” he went to his mother “maa say yes” she hesitated for a moment and said “yes” “thanks maa bye” he said happily. “Beta breakfast” “I will eat later maa” he took his mobile. “All the best bhai” his sister wished while he was going out. He didn’t say anything just smiled a little and went out.

He was so nervous. He should be there by 10:30 am but he reached the place by 9 am. He went to the reception and enquired. They asked him to wait as his appointment was set at 10:30 am. He waited in the hall, for every 5 minutes he was checking the watch. While he was waiting the only expression on his face was nervousness. Finally he got the call. He went inside. “Hi” “hi please sit down” the person explained him all the rules and gave him the papers, without a thought he signed the papers. The person took him into the room and showed him a one day old baby girl. “Sir here is the baby, congratulations you have completed all the adoption formalities, from now she is your daughter” his hands were trembling when he took the baby into his hands. He removed a little bit of white cloth which is wrapped around the baby and touched her fingers. The nervousness, excitement everything vanished when he touched the little baby. She is so beautiful.

The tiny fingers, little nose are so cute. From the past 6 months he is convincing his mother for the adoption process. His mother said okay because of the pressure but she is not happy about his decision. His sister is the only support he got. He took the baby and went home.

“Maa come soon” his sister started shouting by seeing him. “maa……” he showed the baby to her. She looked at the baby “go and eat something” she said and went in to her room. “Congrats bhai” his sister hugged him. “Thank you, thank you for everything, for the support” “no sentiments bhai why don’t you buy me something” she said with a big smile. “Ask me what you want?” “Later” “do you want to hold her?” “ya I am waiting” he gave the baby to his sister. “Oh she is so small…….by the way bhai what’s her name?” she asked him looking at the baby. “Naina…..” she looked at him when he said. “She is no more bhai” he sat silently. “bhai” “yes” he answered her after a few seconds. “it’s been an year you should forget her, its lost love bhai” “no sissy she is my only girl friend and my only one…….what’s yesterday date” “its 12…….” And she gave a pause. “See it’s her birthday and baby was born yesterday” “bhai it’s……” “She is my only love” he said by looking at the baby.
