My Dear Puppy
My Dear Puppy
The gloomy clouds encroached upon the sky, rendering a bleak atmosphere. The immobile clouds refused to move, since they felt the urge to spew out the water churning in their tummies. Hooting wind blew across the streets as if to become the talk of the town. The muddy roads bereft of water looked desperate to suck the water from the bosom of the clouds. The defunct bus stand the people had abandoned reflected the poor infrastructure of the village. Rishi, who was listening to a melodious song while riding his bike, halted suddenly thanks to a quick drizzle. He pulled himself out of the bike before materialising under the defunct bus stand to avoid getting drenched. Soon, the rain God turned angry and started pelting down with no mercy. He looked at the nearby trees that seem to relish the glory of being bathed by rain. He switched on his phone to listen to news, only to hear a tirade from a politician which irked him to the core. With a grimace painted on his face, he switched off his phone and pushed the gadget into his pocket. He could see a puppy that couldn't grapple with the onslaught of rain and it whimpered in agony. He could feel the pain of the hapless animal that starved alone. Rishi opened the zip of his bag and pulled out a couple of biscuit packets, which he thought could serve as a panacea for the puppy's predicament. He stroked the fur of the puppy that had been wetted thanks to the rain. The small puppy huffed as it felt relieved with its body experiencing joy. It licked his body, showing gratitude to the unconditional love being showered upon it. He tore open the biscuit packet and the puppy couldn't resist the temptation as it put its mouth onto a biscuit, which broke into pieces. It kept nibbling on the biscuits as ecstasy coursed down its body. He felt a sense of fulfillment that brushed past him. His lips curved into a smile being proud of satiating the hunger of a bereaved puppy. He felt a strong urge to carry the puppy along with him so that it could live peacefully in his home rather than suffering on the footpath. With many street dogs around, he did not find it right to leave the puppy alone. The cute puppy kept on seeing him with its delicate eyes. Finally, the downpour slowed down and people started walking out. He gently picked up the puppy in his hand, which cut a cute picture for the onlookers. Subsequently, he put the animal in his bag with its face protruding out while the body being enclosed by the bag. Rishi started his motorbike and quickly retreated from the bus stand. The puppy looked here and there as the bike rumbled along the road.
Rishi halted his bike at the gate while the street dogs came barking thanks to the presence of a puppy in his bag. He shooed them away as he held the bag in his hand before making an entry into his house. Unbidden, a new guest has come to his home. He placed the bag on a table and carefully lifted the puppy out, which made cute sounds which perked up his ears. His mother, who was preparing delicious dishes inside the kitchen, could hear the sounds of a puppy which raised her eyebrows. When she came out of the kitchen, she looked shocked to see her son playing with a puppy.
"What are you doing?" she asked, with knitted brows.
"Can't you see, Mom? I am playing with my cute little puppy," he said with a wide grin.
"Why did you bring the puppy home?" she asked quizzically.
"It was struggling alone in that defunct bus stand with no support at its disposal. Other dogs might have assaulted it had I not saved it in the nick of time."
"Look at the condition of your puppy. It will poop here and there and it will fill our house with the reek," his mother vented out her frustrations clearly.
"No problem. Let us swim in the ocean of its stench. It will be like embarking on a thrilling adventure," he stifled his smile.
"Your poor jokes are as bad as your puppy."
"Your frustrations are as bad as my puppy's poop."
"I have nothing left to say," she traced her steps back to the kitchen with her face oozing out anger.
Rishi took the puppy to the bathroom to ensure it came back with a clean body emanating aroma around.
The cute puppy danced in joy along with its new owner as they listened to a melodious music. The puppy seemed to have renounced its pain and fear as it went into a frenzy state with Rishi. He cuddled the puppy as it melted his heart with its cute little sounds.
I went on a mining spree
I got you as a treasure for free
You are officially part of my family tree
It's time for us to smile with glee
Rishi's mother peered through the window, furious to see the animal hanging out on the bed. She felt disgusted to see puppy pooping here and there, which irked her to the core. She couldn't grapple with the puppy that seem to have held the hegemony of the house. Gripped in anger, she made up her mind to abandon the puppy at the right time.
The effulgence of Sun God commemorated the birth of a new dawn, which was in contrast to the gloomy weather the previous day. Rishi woke up to the deafening alarm sound that threatened to breach his patience level. He kept his anger at bay before he got himself ready to go to the office. Before he could scurry outside, he planted a kiss on the head of his puppy, which seemed to be in a dull mood. He promised to come back soon so that they could resume their musical dance.
No need to panic
In the evening, let's drench in music
So that we can create magic
Magic needs no logic
He cuddled the cute puppy which licked him, symbolizing the unwavering love between the two.
"Please feed this puppy, Mom. I hope you won't let it starve," he said.
"Fine. I will feed your puppy but will not pamper it," she said.
Rishi's mother could see her son being zoomed out of her eyes, which seemed to kindle happiness within her. She glared at the little puppy, which did not know what to do. After some time, she picked up the puppy and went outside. She left the puppy near the garbage bin alone without even showing an iota of sympathy. The puppy whimpered and was desperate to follow her, but she somehow managed to evade the animal. The puppy went to the corner of the bin, scared for life. Some of the street dogs picked up, fighting against each other, which sent shivers down the spine of the puppy. Rishi had ushered in a new chapter in the puppy's life, but his mother thwarted it.
In the evening, Rishi completed his office work. Subsequently, he straddled on the bike, which growled as if to sputter into life. He then zipped across multiple roads before he appeared near the bin. A street dog was all set to attack a little puppy. He stopped his bike only to realize that it was his puppy. He had tears welled up in his eyes looking at the sorry state of the animal. Rishi could feel the pain that ran through the veins of the animal, which was in a hapless condition. He picked up a pebble to chase the street dog away. The puppy briskly realized the presence of his owner, which made it heave a sigh of relief. He picked up the puppy with both his hands to calm the animal that had shivered, unable to fend for itself. The pain in his countenance turned to anger as he rode back home. Repulsed by his mother's conduct, he seethed in fury.
"Who asked you to leave the puppy alone in that garbage? Don't you even have an iota of compassion? Do you even know the pain it endured throughout the day? Had I not arrived at the right time, God knows what would have happened. This is also a living creature. Why can't you understand that? Would you have left a small baby in the middle of the road? Animals may not be humans, but don't they feel pain?" he peppered his mother with multiple questions to which she couldn't answer.
Ironically, she caressed the puppy, which was a testament to the fact that she had realized her mistake.
"I am sorry, my son. I will make amends for my mistake by taking care of this puppy," she said.
"I am sorry too. I shouldn't have raised my voice like that, but I could literally feel the pain of the animal," he said.
Rishi and his mother took care of the puppy which metamorphosed into a giant animal. All of them lives happily thereafter.
