Theirs was a fairytale romance. Only it never ended happily ever after! Anu was the only daughter of doting parents from a big town, unlike Raj an unemployed village youth from a big joint family.

Marry in haste and repent at leisure was the perfect example to describe their wedlock. They met, fell in love, got married, all too soon, just like their divorce! For unfortunately, their love could not sustain the every day pressures of marital life.

Once the initial euphoria of novelty subsided, it dawned upon them how difficult it was to be in a relationship sans adjustment. Relationships need more of that rather than mutual respect and physical love.

For marriage meant responsibility not just romance. It meant real food on the table not just sip cuppa at a cafe. It meant clean clothes and not undone laundry. It meant a clean house, grocery, servants, guests, financial planning, EMIs and the list was endless. Anu was the dreamy eyed princess who thought that life would continue as smoothly as earlier and Raj was someone who wanted a traditional wife, just like his mother and sisters. Both were totally unprepared for the reality when their illusion was shattered.

Sadly this is the sorry state of the present generation who enter marriage with unrealistic expectations and are in for a rude shock. High time we raised our girls to stop dreaming about Prince Charming. He doesn't even exist !Rather teach them that household chores are not something to be belittled. Our boys too need to realise not to expect everything on the go but take efforts in that direction. Share the work, after all it's a joint venture. Appreciate the partner and give a patient hearing. It will solve most of the problems. Nevertheless, it's compatibility which goes a long way in making any relationship a great success. Adjustment is the core word.
