Love Lust and Reality

Around at 8 pm on Saturday, I get a call from my colleague Ramesh asking do I have any alternate contact number of Prerana. I sensed something wrong in his tone and said No, I have only single contact of her why what happened?

He said: She has put a photo of her cut wrist in the face book story and written Good Bye, I tried calling her and her number is switched off. It took me a while to respond then asked him to be on line and checked in the facebook, it looks like her hand only let me try contacting her husband Venkat and disconnected the call.

So many thoughts started flowing in my mind while I am dialing Venkat, He picked up call and said I was outside, got to know just now going back home quickly to check and hangs up. I am losing my mind and thoughts about flashback started pondering like a waterfall.

We all work in same corporate office, become good friends over the years. We used to tease them initially and it turned out to be serious relationship over the period of time. Almost two year back I get a call from an unknown number asking is Venkat with me? It’s his sister on other side trying to find out where he is from last 2 days. After understanding the situation from her, I too started contacting few of our common friends and finally found that he is with one of our friend, I also joined them quickly. Later got to know that his parents are against his marriage because of different caste, He fought with his dad and left home 2 days back. We started convincing him that running away is not the solution; family is searching for you everywhere and very tensed right now. Let’s go home first and have patience give them some time to accept eventually they will agree for it. Then we headed towards his home, his parents were bit relaxed and thanked us a lot. After spending some time with them we left.

Eventually his family got convinced and they happily married within 2 months of that incident. They treat us double party and were very happily living together.

Coming back to present Phone rings its Ramesh asking was I able to reach her, I said, had call with venkat and he is going back home waiting for his call back.

After an hour also gets a call back from Venkat saying everything is under control and she is fine now.

Uuuuffff… Bit relaxed… asked “what happened, you guy had a fight or what?”, he said “she is going through some depression counseling is going on, I will tell you everything sometime later” and hanged up.

I just updated the same to Ramesh. It was a shocking experience for me. It took some time for me to get back to normal.

Next day evening Venkat calls me and explain me what happened.

They moved to a new house nearby office for easy commute post marriage. From sometime now Prerana has fell into depression and counseling sessions are going on.

I asked him what is the reason for depression, He said as you know she is 2 years elder than me and when we were dating, she confessed saying “I get attracted towards girls sometimes, I know it’s not right and I will be committed to you going forward”. With that note we gone ahead and got married. It was all fine till last 6 months. After Medini (Intern at office) joining the team her behavior started changing and often arguments started at home. She feels something abnormal with her and she had ruined my life. After a month also it was unbearable for her and she decided to take counselor help and it’s been some time now her mood swings a lot. I was supporting her patiently. But now this, I don’t know what to do, she is trying hard to get over and its extremely difficult for me to handle. We are completely clueless now about our future.

It completely shook me even I don’t know how to react or what to suggest. I simply kept on listening and just said I don’t know what to say you guys think over hope you guys figure out something soon and hang up.

Whole experience pushed me into deep thinking; I was not able to figure out who is wrong or whose mistake it is to victimize 2 people life. Till now I dint get the concrete answer for this question.

In my view it’s not either Prerana’s or Venkat’s mistake, Its purely society’s mistake that it never made us realize that LGBTQ is normal and real, it never thought us. Is it a feeling or reality and how to deal with it, if that was known to Prerana or Venkat they would have not been into this situation and would have lived better life.
