Little Things

Jo kept the laptop aside and got up from the chair when she heard the doorbell. “You are early,” she said by seeing her friend at the door. “Yeah,” Nina said and came inside. “Are you ok Nina?” Jo asked by seeing her face. Nina didn’t answer her. “What’s wrong Nina?” she asked again. “Don’t ask” Nina took the bottle from the table. “What happened this time?” “He never listens to me. He always does this, he…….” Nina started screaming. “Ok chill, this happens every time” “but this time am very angry on him Jo” “why don’t you break up?” Jo said after listening to her.

 “Are you crazy Jo?” “No am not, you and your boyfriend are crazy” both sat at the dining table. “He is my boyfriend and I love him,” Nina said calmly. “Really Nina, you both always fight with each other” “of course Jo we fight but that’s part of love” “don’t tell me the stupid philosophy now” Jo raised her voice. “It’s not philosophy, its love and when you are in love you will know,” Nina said with a smile. “I won’t do all this I will directly break up,” she said with an irritating face. “Do whatever you want but am not breaking up with my boy friend” Nina got up from the chair. “Ok come on sit” Nina didn’t listen to her. “Come on let us discuss” Jo got up and hold her hand when she was about to go.

“What do you want to discuss Jo?” Nina asked her while sitting on the dining chair. “You love him, Nina, I know but does he love you?” “Of course he loves me,” Nina said without thinking. “How do you know?” “I know” “how Nina?” she questioned her again. “When someone loves you, you will know” Nina continued by seeing the same question mark look on her face. “The way he behaves with me, the way he talks, the…..” “So he always says I love you” Jo interrupted her. “no.…it’s not about saying I love you or I hate you”  “He won’t say I love you,” she said with a teasing tone. “Jo…….” “You both always fight Nina, if he doesn’t love you….” She paused for a second and “I don’t want you to get hurt” “I won’t, he loves me Jo” she sat silently without saying anything.

 “When we cross the road he always holds my hand and he moves to the traffic side, he never allows me to face the traffic. When I sit in the car, he double-checks the lock, you know I always rest on the door. See one hour back we had a fight but he messaged me ‘ping me after going to room’. Nina showed the message to Jo. “He cares for me Jo and love is nothing but caring” she explained clearly.

“Even though, I have my doubts,” Jo said after few seconds of silence. “What doubts?” Nina asked looking at her face. “Are you sure Nina” “I am sure Jo” she smiled. “But I hate him” “I know and I don’t want you to like him, if we both love him, he can’t handle us both” Nina gave a naughty smile. “Yuck Nina you are so……..” she went into the kitchen. “By the way, even I hold your hand while crossing the road” Jo yelled from the kitchen and Nina went inside. “Yes, of course, you love me Jo” “I don’t Nina” she raised her eyebrow.

“Even you say I love you or not, you care for me and I care for you, Jo. Just keep this in your mind, love is not about expensive gifts, it’s just about the little things we do for each other.” Nina said by holding her hand
