It’s Complicated

It’s the weekend and after a long working day, he wanted to relax. He took his mobile and dialled. “Hello”, “hello, done with your work?” “Yeah almost…. why?” his friend questioned. “Let’s party”, “oh sure, I will meet you at the pub” “ok.” From office, he went straight into the pub. He sat there for a few minutes waiting for his friend and ordered a drink. “Where are you?” he called his friend. “Am struck in traffic”, “ok come fast” he cut the call and looked around. There he saw a girl sitting at the bar counter all alone. She wore a short orange colour dress. She tied her hair up revealing her beautiful neck and shoulders in a sleeveless dress. She was hitting the bar stool with her pointed heels. He stared at her for a few minutes but couldn’t see her face fully in the dim light. He went to the counter and sat beside her. He hesitated for first few minutes and made his move.

“Hi” he said looking at her. She turned towards him and said “hi” she was more beautiful than he thought. “I am….” Her mobile rang when he was about to introduce himself. She took her mobile and answered it. “Are you waiting for someone?” He asked her immediately when she cut the call. “No, I am all alone” she said while keeping the mobile in her wallet. “Can I buy you a drink?”, “I already have one” she crossed her legs and raised the drink glass. He just smiled and didn’t know what to talk about. They both sat quietly for a few minutes. “What about you? Are you waiting for someone?” she broke the silence. “I am waiting for my friend” he was relieved by her question. “Lucky you” he was surprised by her words. “I…..I didn’t get you”, “hmmm……” she sipped the drink. “So you are waiting for your girlfriend” she asked him. “No, I don’t have a girlfriend, am waiting for a boyfriend….I mean guy friend” she smiled at his words. Her smile was gorgeous. The dimness of the lights couldn’t cover the brightness of her smile. But there is a pain and he could clearly see the pain in her eyes. The lips are smiling but there is sadness in her eyes. He was staring at her. “What?” she asked him by looking into his eyes. “No….nothing” he turned towards the counter.

After a few minutes “so what are your plans for tomorrow?” he asked while sipping the drink. “My life never runs on my plans” she said seriously. He was surprised by every word of hers. “What are your plans?” she asked by looking at his confused face. “Nothing much” he was just looking at her. “Ok then, I should go and its nice meeting you” she forwarded her hand for a shake hand. He slipped his hand into her. “Can I ask you one thing?” he asked her when she was leaving. “Yeah” she turned back. “Are you ok, I mean…. is everything ok?”, “It’s complicated” she smiled and waved him bye.

His eyes followed her until she was out of the room. He definitely knows that she was in pain but didn’t know the reason behind it. She was beautiful and rich. By looking at her dress, her looks, anyone can say that she was rich. He was thinking only one thing “what could be wrong with such a young, rich, beautiful girl” he spoke with her for only 10 minutes but he could say that life has been tough on her.
