Emily sat in the surgical waiting room, staring at the ketchup stain on the wall and listening to the minutes of the clock tick by at a glacial pace. The overhead board showed her husband was still in surgery, already two hours overdue.

She jumped up and began pacing, back and forth, pondering all the ways Bob drove her crazy: slurping his soup like a Hoover, putting carrots up his nose to entertain the kids, laughing at his own bad dad jokes.

She pictured those scenarios in her head and shuddered. She had no interest in a life without him.
