Her Mistakes

“Kiara, wake up. It's your special day.”

“What special day, mom? No one is going to come for my birthday." Kiara said, getting up. She looked at her acne-filled face in the mirror sadly. 

“Why are you saying this?” Jess asked. 

“No one likes me. They always make fun of me. No one wants to be my friend because I am unattractive.”

“You have a beautiful and kind heart. That's what makes you attractive. Remember, a person's heart makes them beautiful, not their looks. The people who make fun of you have beautiful faces with dark hearts. Now get ready for breakfast." Her mom said and left. 

After breakfast, She went to college. As she entered the class, she felt uncomfortable as everyone stared at her like she was an alien. She went across all eyes and sat down. Some girls went near her and one of them whose name was Rebecca said, “Hello, the acne queen and unattractive Kiara." 

Kiara heard everyone laughing and a tear fell from her eye. She got up and ran out of the class. After crying for a while, she decided to go home. As soon as she entered, she stomped her bag angrily on the couch. She sat down on the couch and started crying. Jess came near her and asked, “What happened?”

Kiara looked at her and said, “I will never go to college. Everyone laughed at me.”

She cut off Jess and said, “No, I don't want to listen. I just want to change and be attractive. I will not go to college till then.” 

She picked up her bag, went to her room, and locked the door. She lay on the bed and started crying.

Jess wanted to celebrate her birthday but Kiara was so upset. She felt bad for her. It was almost dinner time when Kiara came out. Jess looked at her with a smile and called her but Kiara was lost in her thoughts, she didn't realize that Jess was calling her. Kiara silently walked back to her room after having dinner. Jess was disturbed by her behavior. It continued for days. She didn't go to college. She locked herself in the room and only stepped out for her meals.

One night, Kiara was having a dream and was muttering something as if she was talking to someone. A smile came to her lips. 

The next morning, She reached college with a smile on her face. 

A beautiful girl entered the class and everyone's eyes turned toward her entrance of the class. She was wearing black jeans with a blue top. Her hair was open and the make-up on her face was complimenting her looks. Everyone was shocked to see her but they were even more shocked when she settled on Kiara's desk. 

“Is she Kiara?" Rebecca asked.  

“Let's go and ask her.” A girl replied and they walked up to her.  

“Hello, Are you Kiara?” 

“I think I am .” She said with a smile. 

“How is this possible? How did you change your look in just a few days? What did you do?” Rebecca bombarded her with questions. 

“It doesn't concern you. Just stay out of my matters.” Kiara said and left the class.

Rebecca was the most popular girl in the class and the girlfriend of the most handsome and rich boy in college. She felt insulted. She walked up to her boyfriend, Kevin, and said, “ Kevin, Did you see that? She just insulted me and you were just sitting here.”

Kevin got up and whispered in her ears, “I will do something about her, don't worry." He said and left the class. 

The whole college was mesmerized by Kiara's appearance. She was sitting in the canteen. Kevin came there and sat in front of her. 

“Hello, Kiara.”

Kiara looked at him and furrowed her eyebrows. After a few seconds, she said, “Hello." 

Kiara, I … I ...

Kevin wasn't able to speak. 

“Why are you stammering? Say it." Kiara said. 

“I wanted to ask you out on a date. Are you free this weekend?" Kevin asked, nervously. 

“Don't you think you are asking the wrong person? Rebecca is your girlfriend ." She said getting up. She was leaving when she heard him saying, “We broke up." 

She turned and looked at him. She went near him and said, “Kevin, You also used to make fun of me with Rebecca and others and now you are saying that you broke up with her within fifteen minutes after seeing me like this. If you think I will trust you easily, then you're wrong." 

“Okay, don't trust me but can we be friends?” He said and extended his hand towards her. She held his hand and shook it lightly. 

Kevin smiled and asked, “No, can we have coffee as friends?” 

" Okay, fine." 

Kiara reached home. Jess was sitting on the couch when she saw Kiara walking in. She was surprised when she saw Kiara. At first, she wasn't able to recognize her. She stood up and said, “Kiara. You look gorgeous. How did you change your appearance into such a gorgeous girl?" 

“Mom. I can't tell you how I did it. It's just magic that happened overnight. ” She said and sat down. 

“Okay, but why did you leave for college without meeting me?” Jess asked. 

“I didn't want to disturb you." She replied, looking at her. 

Jess smiled and hugged her.

On the weekend, Kiara got ready for her date with Kevin. She wore a pink dress and tied her hair in a ponytail. She entered the cafe and saw Kevin already waiting for her. She went near him and said “Hello."

Kevin got up and said, “You look gorgeous."

“Thank you," Kiara said and sat on the chair. 

“What would you like to have?” Kevin asked. 

“Coffee,” Kiara answered and he ordered two coffees. Soon, their coffees arrived. Kevin took a sip of his coffee and said “Kiara, I know you didn't believe me that day that I had broke up with Rebecca but trust me I broke up with her a day before. I want you to give us a chance." 

“Are you sure?” Kiara asked.

“Yes, I am.”

Kiara thought and then said, “Okay, it's a yes.” 

“Am I dreaming or are you really accepting my proposal?” Kevin asked excitedly.

“It's not a dream," Kiara said and Kevin hugged her. 

“Thank you, Kiara.” 

Kevin sat back and smiled. He held her hand and said, “ Kiara, my birthday is coming next month and I want you by my side on my birthday.”

“I will be there.” She said and Kevin smiled.

“Okay, I should leave now. See you soon.” Kiara said and left the cafe. Kevin's lips curled in a smile when he saw her leaving. 

Kiara was happy that finally, she was in a relationship. Jess was happy to see her daughter's smile but she felt that something was wrong with Kevin and her relationship she didn't want to destroy her happiness. 

On the day of his birthday, Kiara reached the party and smiled when she saw Kevin. He walked up to her and hugged her. Rebecca looked at them with anger. Everything was going great and Kiara was enjoying herself a lot with everyone but Kevin had different plans. After everyone left, he spiked Kiara's drink. Kiara drank it and felt dizzy after a while. Kevin held her in his arms as she lost her consciousness and smiled evilly. The next morning, Kiara woke up in unfamiliar surroundings. She was shocked to find herself naked under the bedsheet. Her head was aching as memories of last night flashed in her mind. She got up and wore her clothes. She tried to find Kevin but he was nowhere to be found and hadn't picked up her calls. She cried for a while and went home. 

She locked herself inside the room without meeting Jess. A few days passed but she didn't step out of her room, even for meals. One day, Rebecca came to meet her. 

Kiara finally left her room and came to the living room. Jess left them alone. 

Kiara was sitting silently on the couch when she heard Rebecca saying, “You're so stupid Kiara. How can you even think that Kevin will break up with me for a girl like you? He just used you for his pleasure and you thought that he was in love with you. You were wrong and made such a big mistake trusting us. He is still mine." 

Rebecca left her home and Jess came out of her room. Kiara was crying. Jess sat beside her and asked, wiping her tears, “What magic happened that night, Kiara?”

Kiara started saying, “ That night, I had a dream. There was an angel in my dream and she blessed me with beauty. The next day, I woke up and looked in the mirror, I found my skin without any acne and spots. I was looking attractive. I thought everyone would start liking me. I will be happier but I was wrong, you were right mom. They all made fun of me because they have dark hearts with beautiful faces. You were right mom, a person's heart makes them beautiful. Thank you, Mom and I am sorry for all the mistakes I made." 

“It's okay, Kiara. That angel appeared in your dreams and blessed you with beauty just to make you understand what true beauty is?”

The next day, when she woke up and looked in the mirror, she was again in her unattractive look but this time she didn't cry for it. She smiled and got ready for college. She entered the classroom and everyone started laughing at her. She smiled and sat down when Kevin walked toward her and said “Hey, I hope you enjoyed the night with me." He finished and started laughing. 

Kiara smiled and replied, “You've got my unattractive body but I still hold my beautiful and kind heart which makes me attractive. Thank you, Kevin." 

She said and started reading her book. When she went home, she found a girl sitting on the couch and was shocked. Her face was resembling the angel who appeared in her dream. She looked at Kiara and said, “Hello, my beautiful. I hope you will always keep your heart beautiful.”

She hugged her and left. From that day, Kiara always stayed happy and helped everyone in need and all the girls like her to find their real beauty.

And she lived beautifully ever after.
