Aman was a sixteen year old boy. It was afternoon and the sun was glaring at him with hot eyes. As he was returning to his home, he was murmuring something to himself, “Why do I always have to listen this, in the morning mom was lecturing about it to me and then my teacher and then even my friend. I don’t believe, they all say," if you do good to someone, good will come back to you". If you help someone then you will gain something. But how? I still fail to understand.”

Finally, he reached his home, as he moved towards the front gate; he saw that the door was locked. “Mom must have left the keys with old Mr. Agarwal; I should get them from him. He thought.

So he went next door and rang the door bell. No answer. He repeated once again but no one came. He decided to go in. As he reached the front door he saw that smoke was coming out from the window beside the door. ”

Suddenly a thought came to his mind, “What if there is a fire inside?” He decided to go in but the door was latched. He then tried to see through the window, yes it was a fire! He had to act fast, he thought, he tried to open the window but couldn’t.

Then he saw the stairs of the terrace. He climbed them up.

“Ah! There is a gate.” He thought. He tries to open it but it was too latched from inside. Then he saw a glass window. He could go in through this, he thought. He took a big stone and thrashed it on the window. The glass broke off. He jumped in and a gust of smoke hit his face. “Yes, it is a fire.” He was quite sure now.

He ran downstairs and saw Mr. Agarwal in his usual wheelchair and saw Mrs. Agarwal fainted due to an asthma attack.

He acted fast. He unlatched the front door and directed the elderly out of the house. Then he looked for the site of fire. It was in the kitchen. He wanted water. He took out the bottles from refrigerator and threw the water on the affected area. This helped extinguishing some fire. He wanted more water. He turned on the tap, but unfortunately there was no water. The fire was starting to rekindle, if he didn’t do something fast, the fire would spread once again.

Suddenly he had an idea, he ran to see if there was a blanket in the house, luckily he found one. He got it and threw it over the fire. Finally the fire extinguished.

Next, he called the ambulance. As soon as the ambulance came he helped Mrs. Agarwal get into it after that he got his house’s keys from Mr. Agarwal’s house and took Mr. Agarwal to his house.

Mr. Agarwal was pleased with Aman’s actions. He called him and said, “Aman I don’t have any grandchild, but after what you did today for us, you will not call me uncle anymore, but you will call us grandpa and grandma from now” and hugged him affectionately.

His words moved Aman and he felt a great sense of satisfaction. After this incident he understood, what his mother, teacher and friend were telling him that day. Finally he understood and got something valuable in return for help. He got lovely grandparents and a sense of satisfaction. This also made him learn a precious value of life.
