Eradicate The Dilemma Within

“Greatest of civilizations are not killed by a powerful enemy, but are vanquished by the decay within”

Today, I am going to talk about how to eradicate the dilemma within, using a story of Mahabharat.

During the war of Kurukshetra, Duryodhana who was the leader of Kaurava’s army was vanquished by Bheema in a battle of Mace. Duryodhana lay on the battlefield, awaiting death, badly bruised by the wounds inflicted by Bhima.

Unable to speak, he kept his three fingers in a raised position. All the efforts made by his men to understand the meaning proved to be futile. Seeing his plight Krishna approached him and said "I know what issues occupy your mind. I will address them". Krishna identified the issues as:

Not building a fort around Hastinapura, Not persuading Vidura to become the chief-advisor, and not making Ashwatthama the commander-in-chief of his army. Had he built a fort around Hastinapura; he could have totally avoided the war in the first place.

If Vidura had fought on his side, he would have had the best strategist, even better than Krishna.

Ashwatthama though not as talented was highly skilled in the art of warfare, had he been the commander of the army, victory would have surely been his, because he was fighting to defeat the Pandava’s whereas all his designated Commander-in-chief’s – Bhishma, Drona, and Karna were doing their jobs, somewhere they had a soft spot for the enemy and inadvertently they let their enemy know their weaknesses.

How many times in our lives do we face a similar dilemma? Whether it is about making a simple choice of buying a cell phone to selecting the right partner in marriage.

Our dilemma of not knowing what the best for us is and what should we do has helped fund such a huge industry…Self Help writers, motivational speakers, Life Coaches…Now don’t get me wrong, they are only helping us find ourselves.

But think about it! Did you feel the need to go to a Life coach when you were 15 yrs. old and decide what is it that you want to become when you grow? The answer is NO!! We would have already decided or since we are Indians our fathers/forefathers would have already decided what we were going to do in life and then would have sought guidance on how to do that, Isn’t its Friends!!

The fact remains, that as we grow and mature, the complexities in our lives also increases and it becomes extremely difficult to figure out whether what we want from our lives or how to do what we want.

How many times have we heard our friends and acquaintances say:

“I could have become a CEO of a company but then I also have a family to take care of?” or“Had my father not persuaded me to join our family business, I could have become a movie star? Now, do all the CEOs not have a family? Or do the movie stars not run family businesses? No, it’s just that they have not been able to figure out how to achieve their ambitions…

Friends don’t be that guy!! You can achieve your goals and the simplest manner to achieve your goals and the answer your dilemmas is asking yourselves these 3 questions:

What is it that I want? Is what I want, right for myself & the society? What is it that I need to do in order to get what I want? These questions seem easy, but I bet, that no one and absolutely no one will be able to answer these questions in a manner that satisfies themselves, let alone others…

We search for the answers to these questions everywhere while the answers to these questions lie within try this simple exercise of writing down the answers to these questions daily:

What is it that I want to do today? Is it the right thing to do? How should I do it? Believe me, you will not be able to get a satisfactory answer to these questions for the first 60 days you try, but from the 61st day on you will start becoming atmanirbhar i.e. self-sufficient and start figuring things on your own.

In the end, I would like to conclude by saying that all our scriptures or the law of attraction or all other self-help books like You can win or power of subconscious mind tells us this very same thing. To Eradicate the dilemma within.

So, let’s try and inculcate these practices and see for yourself the change that you have become!!!
