Daughter vs Daughter In Law

Very often people say that times are changing and now people don’t differentiate between their daughter and their daughter in law. I sometimes wonder if it is really happening.
Just yesterday I was in a marriage function. In Indian marriages, people try to look for wedding proposals and so was the case yesterday. Similarly, there were people having conversations about such proposals. One such aunty was looking for a suitable match for her son as his wife had passed away a couple of years back. Aunty was speaking to another aunty whose son had died a few years back and their daughter- in- law was widowed at a young age.
Here the second aunt's statement was interesting,
“Re-marriage is not possible for our daughter-in-law. If we give her in marriage, who will take care of us in our old age? If it was our son or daughter, we would have thought of re-marriage but daughter-in-law is our only helping hand. There is no way we can allow her re-marriage.”
I was stunned. I could not think of anything. Things have not changed much. But I hope they will change one day.
