It was raining heavily; the street lights had gone off and I was returning from my friend’s home. It was night-time and the veil of darkness covered the entire city. As it was raining, the moon was not to be seen. Thankfully, I had my umbrella and I wasn’t completely drenched, though I was pretty cold. Suddenly, I was walking and didn’t see a puddle in front of me and I slipped. My dress was muddy and wet. I was shivering more than ever.

Still I didn’t give up, I continued my journey. I hadn’t brought my car because I never expected it to rain today. If I had taken the pains to see the forecast (it would have only taken me a few minutes!) I wouldn’t have to experience this dilemma. The wind had started to blow pretty fast now too. I held my umbrella tight but I had no luck. The wind had now taken my umbrella also. I decided to stand in a sheltered area for some time and call my sister to pick me up. I reached for my phone, but there was no battery.

Just my luck, I felt as if I was stranded in my own city. I couldn’t even turn back to my friend’s house as I had completed more than half of my journey. I waited for a few more minutes and the rain finally stopped. I started to walk towards my house. I got inside, charged my phone and went for a hot bath. I was about to sit in my bed and read, but I saw the light switched on in my neighbour’s house. I was surprised as they had gone for a long vacation to London and weren’t supposed to return for a week or two.

I went outside and saw the silhouette of a man in the house. I was confused for a moment. Suddenly, I realized that he must be a robber! I freaked out and didn’t understand what to do. I quickly rushed back inside my home, grabbed my phone and called the police. They said that they were on their way. I waited but there was no sight of them. I figured out that if something was to be done to delay the thief, then I had to do it myself. As he was walking out of the house, I whacked him with a stick that I found in my garden. I know that it doesn’t seem like the perfect option, but I was in a hurry!

After a few more minutes, the police had finally arrived. They took the thief away and thanked me for whatever I did. Later, I went home and as I was lying in my bed, I thought about how truly surprising this night was. It was an adventurous experience, but I really hope that this will never happen again. With these thoughts, I fell into a deep sleep after this tiring day.
