Mindsets have still not changed

Widows treated with disdain

Restrictions imposed on them

As though they are to be blamed 

For their husband's untimely death


While the world has moved on

Some communities continue 

Shunning a widow's shadow

Denying her invitation to all

Auspicious occasions


She is treated like the plague

She is treated with shame

Her head tonsured to make 

Her unappealing to men

Banished from society's garden


It's time for minds to awaken

She does not die with her husband's death

Why consign her to live a life

As though she has committed an offence

Give her a chance to rebuild a life again
