When the Trees Walked

Once upon a time,

In a place far away,

Grew trees of apple and lime.

Legends say, they would walk and run,

Throughout the day and across the bay.

They lived pleasant mornings,

Cooking and playing,

And laughing and talking.

They lived beautiful evenings

Watching the Sun go, as he said goodbye, waving.

There lived a witch beneath

The land where trees walked.

She wondered, "Why has god given the wits and wisdom to a tree?"

Her jealousy grew day by day,

She said with rage, "I will curse you, O trees; I have you warned!"

She went to the wisest tree and said-

"I shall curse you, and all around you; you will never walk or talk again!"

"I won't regret", the tree said,

"But I have one condition, You shall not live long after your curse upon us."

"Ok", The witch said "That's all you can obtain."

She has cursed all the trees in the whole world;

She has cursed them all for her wealth

But later had she realised, it was a lesson she learnt.

The trees alive, were the key to life;

And so the curse never broke due to her unsteady health, and later, her death.

The trees missed the pleasant mornings and the beautiful evenings, which were now unhappy and miserable,

Though I could still see them relive those old days and try to move.

Trees walking, to us doesn't seem acceptable,

For, if the trees walked how different would the world have been.

We can't give them back all they have done for us, as the curse which is upon them will remain till the doom.

Those were the days about which we have talked,

It was when the trees WALKED.
