Value of Life
Value of Life
The body was found lying on the pavement,
People passing by avoided looking at it,
Some hurried by turning their faces away, someone informed authorities
They came wearing masks the sign of times we now live in,
People moved away keeping their distance, they looked keenly,
The masks moved closer to the body as if approaching a bomber.
Then lifted the body and carried it to the waiting ambulance,
Loading the body in, the masks got in, the ambulance drove away sirens blaring,
The bystanders moved away
The virus has made us masked crusaders fighting an unknown enemy,
The body on the pavement had no mask,
The people wondered, and questioned,
Did they get infected by the Virus; were they too exposed by the body on the pavement,
Did he die of the dreaded virus,
As they moved away in silence, their mind in turmoil, fear
They looked at his body and knew that the most beautiful experience was to value life.
